Corrections
A firm that publishes corrections is a firm that expects to be checked. This page exists before there is anything on it, because the policy has to precede the first mistake.
§ 1Two different things
- Our error
- We misread a source, miscounted, mislabelled, mis-placed something on a map, or stated something the source does not support. We correct it, mark the page, and log it here.
- A source’s error
- The publisher’s own data is wrong or internally inconsistent. We do not silently rewrite a publisher’s record. We state the defect, keep the value as published, and report it upstream. Several such defects are already disclosed on the coverage frame and the sources page.
§ 2How to report one
Write to contact@spatialsyria.com with the page, the specific claim, and what you believe the correct position is. You do not need to prove it; a pointer is enough for us to check. Reports are welcome from anyone, including a party the finding concerns.
§ 3What we do
- We acknowledge every report that reaches us, including the ones we end up disagreeing with.
- A claim we can no longer support comes down. Provenance is the product: if a fact loses its source, it does not stay up while we look for another one.
- A corrected page says that it was corrected, on what date, and what changed. We do not edit silently.
- Every correction is listed below, permanently, including small ones.
- If we disagree, we say why, and your report stays on the record.
§ 4The log
No corrections have been issued. Nothing has been published to correct yet: the holdings on this site are counts of licensed records, and the first research output has not been released. An empty log is not a claim to be error-free, and this entry will be replaced by the first real one.
