Independence and funding
Neutrality is the product. A firm that sells it should be specific about what could compromise it.
§ 1Affiliation
SpatialSyria is an independent commercial research company. It is not affiliated with any government, and no emblem, seal or flag appears beside its mark anywhere. It does not act for a state, a ministry, a party, or an armed group, and it does not accept work that would require it to.
§ 2How the company earns
- Subscriptions to the research, and a flat published fee for a registry engagement.
- No success fees. No commissions. No brokerage. No introduction fees. The company is never paid more because a transaction it reported on completed.
- No advertising and no sponsored content, in any output.
- A registry fee buys the work of checking, not a listing outcome. A subject that does not pass is told so, and has paid for that answer.
The fee schedule is not yet published because the service has not launched. It will be published in full, as numbers, on the registry page rather than quoted privately. Publishing a price is an independence signal and withholding one is not, so this is sequencing and not discretion.
§ 3Funding and ownership
The company is self-funded and has taken no outside investment, no grant, and no government or intergovernmental money. If that changes, this page states who, how much and on what terms before the next research output publishes, not afterwards.
§ 4Why the byline is institutional
Analysis published here carries the name of the company, not the name of an analyst. This is a deliberate policy and not an omission, and the reason is specific: staff and contributors working on Syria can face consequences that a byline makes worse, and named authorship would also invite pressure on individuals to shade a finding.
We recognise the cost. Anonymous analysis is harder to buy, and a reader is entitled to know who stands behind a number. What we offer instead is the method, the sources, the licences, the defects, and a corrections policy — the things that let you check the work rather than trust the author. Where an institutional buyer needs named accountability for a specific engagement, it is available under contract through enquiries.
§ 5Conflicts we refuse
- We do not hold a position, direct or indirect, in any asset or company we report on.
- We do not accept payment to include, exclude, delay or soften a finding, and no customer sees a research output before publication.
- Information given to us in confidence by a personal or family connection is not source material, and does not become source material by being true.
- A registry subject is not given editorial influence over research that mentions it.
- If you believe an output of ours breaches any of this, the corrections page is how to say so, and what we will do about it.
